Mitt is the Man Now!

Joltin’ Django of Nigh Seen Creeder, a Romney supporter, is wondering what will become of Thompson supporters.

All that said, I wonder if any of the Tennessee turncoats who abandoned Romney last year - see Blackburn, Marsha and Duncan, Jimmy - will return to the fold? Given their profound lack of political judgement, will Mitt even want ‘em back?

Well of course he will. Why would he not want votes? He’s a freaking politician for goodness sake.

In this post at Volunteer Voters, AC linked to a very unscientific online poll that asked who Fred Thompson supporters would vote for if Fred were to drop out. Not surprisingly, 75% of the respondents answered Mitt Romney, compared to 7% for John McCain and 4% for the Huckster.

Mitt is the natural choice for Thompson supporters. While Romney isn’t a perfect conservative by any means, he seems to be the only Republican left in the Republican primary, so naturally he has the best shot at the Republican vote. He certainly has my support, and I think he has an excellent chance of winning the nomination.

By the way, back in early March 2007, I predicted that Mitt Romney would be the Republican nominee. Don’t go to the trouble of clicking on the link though. If you do, just disregard whatever was written after the word “update”. I was just kidding.

UPDATE: Nathan Moore has voiced his support for Romney.

His plan for the economy is sound. Preserve the Bush tax cuts, reduce the lowest tax bracket from 10% to 7.5%, and lower corporate taxes from 35% to 20% by 2010 (the corporate tax rate is a pass-through tax, and is really a tax on every consumer in the economy - people pay taxes, not corporations). As well, Romney proposes to reduce the capital gains tax to zero for those making less than $200,000.00 per year.

Roger Abramson is backing McCain.

John McCain isn’t nearly as bad as some people make him out to be. Again, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he doesn’t kiss the right rings. Well, that doesn’t interest me much. If I wanted that, I’d go with Romney.

So, take 75% of the percentages of voters who have so far voted for Thompson in the primaries, extrapolate to the next 45 states, and… well, do the math.

Can any politician from Massachusetts be a conservative? Not so much.

Can any former of governor of California be a conservative? Umm well.

I see what you are saying Nathan. I am not that crazy about the notion of Mitt Romney, but I can stomach him. McCain and Huckabee make me want to vomit. Guiliani, I don’t know. I think Rudy has some statist tendencies. He doesn’t seem like a big fan of civil liberties. I think he is a non-factor though. I have always said that about Rudy, even when he was leading the polls.

Rudy–definitely a non-factor. Romney however strikes me as the John Kerry of the Republican Party. He’d put on a yarmulkah and give up pork to win Florida.

The funniest thing was watching him during that black parade. He actually said “Who let the dogs out”, and commented on one of the baby’s bling-bling.

Yeah, at least he hasn’t remarked that rap was his favorite type of music (Kerry). He still should be made fun of though.
