When Government Lovers Infringe On Religious Freedom
To reinforce the theme of this post, I give you this load of excrement from Pam Strickland at KnoxViews. Apparently, since Baptist hospital has merged with St. Mary’s Health System, Baptist will no longer perform tubal ligation (tubes tied) because it is at odds with Catholic beliefs.
This really pisses Pam off, even though this is not an emergency procedure and it can just as easily be performed somewhere else.
You see, these people, people like Pam and the people who support the Wisconsin legislation, have absolutely no regard for the Constitution of the United States, and freedom of religion in particular. The only thing they really care about is their version of what is right, and that includes abortion. They might pull the free speech part of the first amendment out of their asses when it is convenient to do so, but they don’t really believe in the principles behind it. They can’t possible give a rat’s ass about freedom and liberty, because those things get in the way of their version of morality. For them, the “common good” is much more important than some silly “bill of rights”.
The Crone weighs in on this issue.
Now, this really pisses me off, first because a hospital has the audacity to impose religious views of contraception on women, and that this imposition is being placed on women through buying up other hospitals.
Oh my God! How dare a religious hospital practice its religious views? Well that just isn’t right. How dare they? After all, it isn’t their hospital. They didn’t build it and create it. It was created by government. Right? As for religious freedom, screw that. No business, especially one ran by a bunch of Catholics and Baptists, should have the right to practice their religion in the face of your entitlement. Oh no. We must get the state involved in this.
Pam makes Egalia look reasonable at times. You have no idea how many Pam’s are in the Knoxville blogsphere. But to hear Pam tell the story she loves some constitution. She is an Al Gore type, the constitution is a living document, we can change it whenever we want. To whatever we (they) want.
France has lost out on Pam. She would love some France. And that’s cool. The problem is she wants to turn America into France.
Common good. Yeah, Pam loves the common good.
At the expense of the individual and liberty, obviously.
Pam isn’t quite correct.
There is a secret area in Baptist Hospital known only to a select few. There, at the Women’s Health Center, women are able to receive full medical care AND learn how the earth revolves around the sun, despite any threats of excommunication.
It is a separate corporate entity. The staff is paid from a separate account, you get a separate bill, even the laundry is done at a different site.
All so the Pope of Rome won’t get his funny hat in a twist.
Thanks Sarcastro, perhaps Pam will read this so that she can learn about that secret place and get her tubes tied at Baptist, instead of another hospital a couple of blocks away. She should never be deprived of a good ole Baptist tube tying.
