Global ‘Warming’ Update…William, ignore this post!
Click to embiggen. What you’re seeing here are side-by-side satellite photos of the Northern Hemisphere’s Sea Ice, from two dates (in this case 2/8/80 and yesterday). Go to Cryosphere Today and play around with it. “Compare side-by-side images of Northern Hemisphere sea ice extent for any two dates in the satellite record (1979-present)“. Nice bit of rebounding, eh?
And, new Science (Gasp! the debate was supposed to be OVER!) …
“German scientists have found a significant piece of evidence linking cosmic rays to climate change. They have detected charged particle clusters in the lower atmosphere that were probably caused by the space radiation.
They say the clusters can lead to the condensed nuclei which form into dense clouds.
Clouds play a major, but as yet not fully understood, role in the dynamics of the climate, with some types acting to cool the planet and others warming it up.
The amount of cosmic rays reaching Earth is largely controlled by the Sun, and many solar scientists believe the star’s indirect influence on Earth’s global climate has been underestimated.
Some think a significant part of the global warming recorded in 20th Century may in fact have its origin in changes in solar activity - not just in the increase in fossil-fuel-produced greenhouse gases.
(emphasis’ mine, for illustrative purposes…)
The ‘missing link’ between Earth’s surface temperatures (warming) and air temperatures (unchanged) may well be the cloud type and cover, changes due to aerosols (banned at about the time global warming got underway) and…cosmic rays. There’s that pesky sun-thing again.
Who would think that the largest star in the neighborhood could be the ultimate source for an orbiting planet’s temperature variations over several thousands of it’s rotational periods? And that a half-degree variation could fuel the ego of an overweight failed politician to the degree of proposing catastrophic economic changes?
And that the fierce but tiny minds of Liberals would respond in such a way as they have?
Science and debate…two things that can’t be quenched by Al Gore. No matter what he says or who he influences.

I was gonna post a comment, but it turned into a post. =)
When I saw this post early this morning, I figured it bring out the Gore-ites. Where are they? Are they defeated? Perhaps even they are beginning to see the nonsense in their blind beliefs.
Now if only these “sun’s-impact-is-underestimated” scientists just had the numbers to back up their belief. Unfortunately, they don’t:
“Solar minimum,” by the way, is in 2010. At that time, solar activity starts to increase again.
P.S. My beliefs are so “blind,” I always manage to back them up with credible cites, which is more than most of you can say…
Heh. I knew there was a problem here, if only I’d stop to think about it. Serr8d is doing a disingenuous comparison. What sea ice levels are like in the winter (i.e., now) isn’t all that telling. What’s telling is what those levels drop to in the summer, when it gets warm at the North Pole. Here is a comparison of the same late-summer day five months before Serr8d’s example: September 15, 1979 and September 15, 2007.
But no, the opponents of global warming don’t use cherry-picked data to make a “point,” no sir!
[…] at Tennessefree, poster Serr8d triumphantly produces a graphic that contrasts sea ice concentrations from […]
I’m glad to see it pointed out how Ser8d’s desperate and ignorant war on science has failed again. Notice the political motivations, how he frames it as a war on Gore (war on Dems, liberals)…
Thanks for saving me the trouble of debunking.
Are you debunking, William, for purely scientific reasons, or because of your own “political motivations”; your war on Conservatives and Republicans?
Actually, your war is on our Capitalist Economic system, which for the most part has given humanity the electronic and other structural tools needed to collectively advance our race past the animalistic, and has allowed our race at this moment to reach crescendo, the point where we are the most enlightened, intelligent, flourished, and remarkable we’ve ever attained. So much so that everyone else wants to be here; China wants what we want, and, except for a very few nations, we are at the top of the heap.
There is room to change, there is room to improve. There are those of us who would improve the way things are done without destroying where and who we are in the process. Al Gore has proposed catastrophic economic change, for reasons that are well beyond a few tenths of a degree of global warming. I believe he hates capitalism so much, that he would destroy what we have attained (and return us to a much less sophisticated point in history) to ‘get’ his way. And he is using junk science to do so, while attempting to stifle those scientists who disagree.
Look to your own heart, William. Do you really want Al Gore to lead you on his quest to cultural and technological devolution?
Ser8d,
Once again, you are assuming that because I am not a politically motivated science denier like you, I am in favor of “catastrophic economic changes”. Baseless assumption. I know it’s hard to rise above your wingnut culture but do your best to seperate science from politics. Don’t fall for shit like that stuff you and #9 posted, that has just been exposed as fraudulent misinformation that has deliberately been designed to mislead for a political agenda.
William:
Shame on you. When confronted with facts, Serr8d does what AGW-deniers always do: he changed the subject. He doesn’t acknowledge that his graphs were crap, he doesn’t acknowledge that he was wrong and/or misleading. Instead, he questions your political motivations. And you let him get away with him. In fact, by bringing up his political motivations, you enabled this dodge.
The better approach is to actually keep him on topic, and make him defend why he ignored the summer images, which clearly show a problem, in favor of winter images that don’t tell us anything. Notice how totally silent he is on that count. Rather than accusing him of anything, I think it’s better to let his silence on the substance of the matter speak for itself.
He’s no different than Number9 on this count. When confronted with facts, he changes (or just drops) the subject.
