Good Shot!

By the Navy.

WASHINGTON - A missile launched from a Navy ship struck a dying U.S. spy satellite passing 130 miles over the Pacific on Wednesday, the Pentagon said.It was not clear whether the operation succeeded in its main goal of destroying a tank aboard the satellite that carried a toxic fuel that U.S. officials said could pose a hazard to humans if it landed in a populated area.

“Confirmation that the fuel tank has been fragmented should be available within 24 hours,” the Pentagon said in a written statement.

Last week, some liberal bloggers decided that since there wasn’t a Democrat in charge to order the mission, there had to be some point on which they could cry foul. Their reasoning? Well, the debris could smack the Space Shuttle and cause an accident…no kidding, they actually believe that! There’s not much else to Bash Bush about this week, so these BDS sufferers got their shots off by inventing another gloom and doom scenario to fret about.

Didn’t happen that way. Our military thinkers did what the Chinese didn’t….we picked a lower point in orbit to intercept, so the resulting debris field would create a nice shower of sparks…without troubling the Shuttle….

“Because the satellite was orbiting at a relatively low altitude at the time it was hit by the missile, debris will begin to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere immediately, the Pentagon statement said.”Nearly all of the debris will burn up on re-entry within 24-48 hours and the remaining debris should re-enter within 40 days,” it said.

Liberal crybabies.

China wasn’t happy about this mission

“In response to a U.S. plan to shoot down a malfunctioning spy satellite, China has warned against threats to security in outer space, without mentioning its own successful anti-satellite missile test last year.”The Chinese government also stopped short of linking the planned U.S. strike with Beijing’s repeated calls for a complete ban on space weapons.

“Security analysts have suggested that Beijing could use the planned U.S. interception to justify the Chinese military’s unannounced destruction of a defunct weather satellite in January 2007.

“That interception drew criticism from senior U.S. military officials, who complained that it had left a cloud of debris that was dangerous to other space traffic. Chinese experts in turn have questioned the Pentagon’s explanation that it wanted to down the spy satellite to avoid contamination from hazardous fuel on board.”

So, Libs, where was your complaining about the Chinese debris field from their ill-advised satellite shoot down last year? Oh, and the technology for that shoot down was supplied to the Chinese by….Bill Clinton!

This U.S. Navy shoot down was a clear signal to both the Chinese and Russians that our armed forces are not yet emasculated by the Democrats, and won’t be for at least a year or so. That should give pause to any plans they might have to do any nefariousness, at least until a Leftist takes office.

After which, I worry for our national security.

The Chinese really need Hillary to win now. How else can they get this technology?
