Can Somebody Tell Me Why?

Why in the hell is Congress asking the Justice Department to investigate Clemens? Why? Who in the hell do they think they are? They are not an investigative body? They are not a judicial body? They are legislators. Thats it. This is absurd folks.

Because if they didn’t investigate Clemens or whatever, someone might get confused and accuse them of doing something constructive, Glen. They can’t have that. Next thing you’d know, we’d want them to be responsible for things and that just wouldn’t fo at all.

Yeah. It just seems so stupid. And I’m not defending Clemens. This just doesn’t make sense though.

Personally, I would rather they do nothing. That’s what I call good government.

The Congress does have the explicit authority “to constitute tribunals,” although I’m not sure that’s how they’re claiming the authority here. My guess is that it has to do with their “regulate commerce” duties; in particular, they long ago granted Major League Baseball an anti-trust exemption, which means that inquiries into what the league does have to go through them instead of the usual legal cannels.
