McCain and Republicans oppose equal pay for women
McCain again didn’t show up for work. Hillary and Barack both came back to the Senate to vote for and speak out on behalf of this legislation - a Senate bill that sought equal pay for women. The bill fell 4 votes short of the 60 votes needed despite bipartisan support. Every Democrat and both independents (Lieberman and Sanders) supported the measure, along with six Republicans.
The Republican minority did what it does best: obstruct legislation.
McCain explained his opposition to the bill by claiming it ‘opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems.’ He added that instead of legislation allowing women to fight for equal pay, they simply need ‘education and training.’
If American workers are being discriminated against, they should be able to file suit. Employers then will stop discriminating and there will be fewer such lawsuits in the future.
OK ladies, now you know who to NOT to vote for. McCain has a way with women. If McCain becomes president, forget about equal pay, you just need to be trained and educated.
No wonder Jenna Bush has refused to support McCain so far!
You have to hand it to Democrats. They are smart. They create a bill to “help the poor”, “spend money on schools”, “end poverty”, etc. and then when somebody has a problem with the bill, they get to label that person as hating poor people, hating school children, etc.
Government should not be in the business of telling a private business who they can hire and how much they are to pay their employees. That isn’t freedom Willie. Now I know that you don’t really give a damn about freedom, being a statist and all. But laws like this, along with Title II and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, are disgraceful.
All they really do is empower lawyers, by creating more opportunities for lawsuits. Also, they end up causing companies to be so fearful of these suits that they overcompensate by advancing and advancing the pay of people whether they deserve it or not, solely on the basis of their skin pigment and whether or not they possess a vagina.
But you guys support this, because like I said, you don’t care about freedom. It’s the state that you care about. Government, government, and more government.
I know Glen, you want freedom to discriminate, freedom for the gov’t to spy on Americans and torture brown-skinned people… thats the kind of freedom you want. I guess for you, thats a better America, a place where women are submissive and subservient to men… because thats what the bible tells you. 1 Timothy 2 (11-12)
In my America, which is the one I live in now, I have worked for female bosses, business owners, even Drill Sargents. This is a solution looking for a problem, meant to be sent to the floor during an election year. It’s clever politics. Thats it. You don’t have a right William to work for who you want to and to get paid what you think you deserve. It isn’t even your job. It belongs to the employer.
