Sure it is voluntary, but it is still a regressive tax. If the voluntary part justifies it for you, then why shouldn’t the state invest in crack rock and sell it on the corners. After all, the people who buy it, do it voluntarily.

I didn’t understand what that graphic was about, but I do understand the logic of saying the lottery is bad for poor people, since so many of the poor spend money they don’t have in the hopes of winning a big jackpot. Is it voluntary? Yes. But desperate people do desperate things, and when you’re desperate and have little means of earning your way out of a financial hole, sometimes a $5 investment in the hope of a big payoff seems like a good idea.
That said, I do occasionally buy Powerball tickets. But I can afford it.
SB, I think some of your wealth should be redistributed to me.
My wife buys a ticket every day. Without fail. I just chuckle. I would never buy a lottery ticket.
I did pay my second installment for my Titans tickets today, though.
