Whooped ‘em again - Dems pick up a House seat

Yet another indication of things to come

In heavily Republican LA-06 centered in Baton Rouge, a district that gave Bush 59% of the vote in 2004, a seat controlled by Republicans since 1974, Democrat Tom Cazayoux won a special Congressional election against his Republican opponent Woody Jenkins upping the Democratic House majority to 235-198. (The seat opened when Republican Richard Baker, a 20-year incumbent, resigned to take a lobbying job).

Why this is particularly sweet is that the cash-strapped RNC poured big bucks into a smear campaign trying to swiftboat Cazayoux, asserting that he was “tied to” Obama and Rev. Wright.  Since the Republicans have no money, they have to depend on soft money groups or smear merchants to help them. Essentially hired liars.

Further, the DNCC says:

House Republicans tried to nationalize this election, illegally coordinated with Freedom’s Watch, used false and deceptive special interest smears, and funneled nearly a million dollars into a district that Republicans held for more than three decades.

Haha! Whooped ‘em again, deep in the heart of Dixie in a red state.

[…] Watch this discussion, watch them laugh in the face of working class Americans and demean them. At least Hume tries to distance himself from the elitism. That’s part of the GOP plan. Keep the people poor and too dumb to know whats going on so they keep voting Republican. Confuse them and lure them in with buzz words like ‘moral values’ …  cut and run’  ‘tax and spend Democrats’… take advantage of the fact that they’re too busy working that they don’t have time to really find out what is going on. They won’t know what is being taken from them. No, finally after 8 years, reality is beginning to sink in. […]
