Bush equates talking to terrorists with appeasing Nazis

Clearly a shot at Obama. CNN reports:

White House aides are acknowledging that this was a reference to the fact that Sen. Obama and other Democrats have publicly said that it would be ok for the U.S. President to meet with leaders like the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad.

Funny, Bush’s own Defense Secretary said yesterday the US needs to sit down and talk with Iran, and appease them with incentives:

“We need to figure out a way to develop some leverage . . . and then sit down and talk with them. If there is going to be a discussion, then they need something, too. We can’t go to a discussion and be completely the demander, with them not feeling that they need anything from us.” — Robert Gates, US Secretary of Defense

Let’s see, where has Bush’s brand of cowboy diplomacy got us?

  • After Bush vowed to capture bin Laden, 6 months later he said he was “truly not that concerned about him” and … even after cornering bin Laden at Tora Bora, he was allowed to escape.
  • Bush invaded Iraq based on lies, supported by a mass propaganda effort, and in a botched plan, didn’t provide for securing Iraq’s borders. Now there is a quagmire. A situation that the former top commander in Iraq, Gen Sanchez called: “a nightmare with no end in sight.”
  • Al Qaeda has strengthened and a gov’t report lambasted the Bush Administration for having no plan to do anything about it and stated because of this incompetence, another attack could be expected.
  • Iran has become emboldened and belligerent. The Middle East has become increasingly destabilized. Who knows what this could hold for future oil prices and the US economy.

Question: with this record, is Bush in a position to criticize someone else’s foreign policy?

Excellent speech and also quite accurate. I bet Clark’s head blew up when he heard the soundbites.

glendean, aren’t you a christian? why do you support israel when it’s a nation of jews that reject christ and were responsible for betraying crucifying him in the first place? … if you believe your own scripture. why support a theocratic nation of people who reject what you believe? explain

JTF, I have a question for you.

WHY ARE YOU SUCH A DUMBASS?

    JTF:

That’s a pretty stupid question. Everyone knows that Christians require an autonomous Israel to be in place in the Holy Land before the Rapture can occur…

In which book of the Bible can I read about this Rapture?

    So Glen,

If there is a rapture, William, you needn’t worry about anyone you know disappearing.

Your band can continue to play.

Well, I have a pretty good idea of what the future holds for oil prices and the U.S. Economy.

$150-200 a barrel. If (when, realistically) it hits the higher ranges then gasoline > than $7 American per gallon. Automotive, airline and transportation industries virtually nationalized, possibly more.

Rapid disappearance of the middle class. Authoritarian measures increased to quash dissent and quell violence, essentially the end of America as we know it.

Obviously a lot of people aren’t up on current events: The American Empire is over-extended, and is beginning to collapse under its own weight. I’d like to think a change of leadership will help to alleviate matters, but at some point historical forces take over. I can’t say I know where the tipping point is, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the evidence ends up pointing to somewhere in the last seven years.

A lot Americans will probably die on their knees praying for rapture.

Keats, I’ve realized for decades that our real problem as humans on this planet is overpopulation. We’re at that tipping point (actually past it) where demand exceeds resources. The planet has nearly 7 billion where, comfortably, a couple billion would be ideal. Resources would not be strained. Malthus wrote on that in 1798.

But, humans are wired for all-time-on sexual reproduction. Unusual, really, in the animal world.

Must have something to do with our massive brains.

    Serr8d,
Sorry, I don’t believe in authoritarian regimes like that of christianity… worship enforced by fear. I feel sorry for those that have to live that way.
