31,000 Scientists sign a petition urging the U.S. Government to rightly ignore the Global Warmalism cult inspired by that fool Albert Gore

“We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”

Signed by 31,000 scientists.

Oh, and this letter from Frederick Seitz…

Research Review of Global Warming Evidence
Letter from Frederick Seitz

“Enclosed is a twelve-page review of information on the subject of “global warming,” a petition in the form of a reply card, and a return envelope. Please consider these materials carefully.

“The United States is very close to adopting an international agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds.

“This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. To the contrary, there is good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is environmentally helpful.

“The proposed agreement would have very negative effects upon the technology of nations throughout the world, especially those that are currently attempting to lift from poverty and provide opportunities to the over 4 billion people in technologically underdeveloped countries.

“It is especially important for America to hear from its citizens who have the training necessary to evaluate the relevant data and offer sound advice.

“We urge you to sign and return the petition card. If you would like more cards for use by your colleagues, these will be sent.”

Frederick Seitz
Past President, National Academy of Sciences, U.S.A.
President Emeritus, Rockefeller University

[my ‘favorites’, emboldened]

Of course, when your aim is to significantly change the world’s economy without regard to the actual ‘facts’, none of this matters, because don’t you know? the science is ‘settled‘. There is no further need for continued research. Or debate. Anyone who dissents from Big Al’s hateful, spiteful campaign to mold the world to his liking (as payback for 2000, when he waddled ignominiously off the world’s stage, only to return as Addled Al, the enviro crackpot)  will be shouted down.

Not for long. There’s a 15-year hiatus (;D) in global warming (but let Al & Co. assure you that after this ‘unexplainable’ 15-year lapse, it’s really gonna get warm)  but we should still try to cause as much consternation and economic damage as possible just because, you know, we say so.

I think that wrap is coming off of the Global Warming sausage now, and we will start to see more scientists come forward to debunk this great game that Al Gore and his leftard followers have tried to foist off on the world.

Al, isn’t it time for you to go to some island somewhere, again, and scarf down some ten thousand donuts?

Great post. I love how you listed the Hollywood “geniuses”. Heh.

  2. William, 21. May 2008, 10:46

    We’ve seen these ‘petitions’ before.
Thank you for including the letter from the now deceased Seitz, the same person who spent much of his later years taking money from the tobacco industry to create studies that showed smoking was not harmful to health. That’s the level of intellectual integrity we’re dealing with here. Learn more about the fraudulent ‘petition’ and the so-called signatories.

FYI The ‘petition’ ,containing the names of many dead scientists, was the work of the The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) headed by Arthur B. Robinson, an eccentric scientist who has a long history of controversial entanglements with figures on the fringe of accepted research. (OISM also markets a home-schooling kit for “parents concerned about socialism in the public schools” and publishes books on how to survive nuclear war).

The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine petition project is based on a report that had not been peer-reviewed, nor published, nor even accepted for publication in the journal of the National Academy of Sciences, BUT was circulated in a petition formatted to mimic the journal of the National Academy of Sciences. The Academy released a strong statement disclaiming any connection to this effort.

On a website hosted by LiquidCoal.com, the leader of that petition, Arthur Robinson appeals to his readers to write to Lee R. Raymond, American Enterprise Institute and former Chairman and CEO of Exxon Mobile Corp to fund a renewed petition drive against global warming.

This shows how authoritarians uncritically accept nonauthoritative opinions to reinforce their ideology. It’s not about science.

Looks like a lot of the ones that believe in Global Warming , went to Hollywood, not Cal-Tech.

Bwaaahaaa. Yeah I checked a few of these names. I’m sure “George C. Alexander, DVM” is a big expert on climate science.

  5. tgirsch, 21. May 2008, 12:56

You’re tilting at windmills, William. There’s simply no amount of evidence that will ever get the Glen Deans and Serr8ds to accept modern science. Not when it’s so damned politically inconvenient for them. The state of Nebraska could spontaneously combust, and they’d still say it was part of a “natural cycle.”

The comparison between “global warming is a hoax” folks and “smoking doesn’t cause cancer” folks is an apt one, however.

  6. southern beale, 21. May 2008, 13:54

There’s simply no amount of evidence that will ever get the Glen Deans and Serr8ds to accept modern science.

Maybe the fact that this is a fake campaign dating back to 1998 might have some effect?

  7. glendean, 21. May 2008, 14:20

There is no “evidence” Tgirsch. Not unless you are a dumbass or a socialist.

does being conservative mean being ignorant and rejecting science? or is that just a part of being religious? or is it all jealousy of al gore’s success? glen dean, how do you know the earth is round? tell us, how old is the earth?

  10. Jeffraham Prestonian, 21. May 2008, 15:51

What denialists mean is, “Hey, if we’re wrong, fuck our kids and grandkids — we got ours!”

But of course, denialists are never wrong, so… no worries!

We are sorry to interrupt your blogging, this special announcement just in,

Global Warming has been called off.

We now resume our normal programming.

    Glen:

You might not find the evidence compelling (which, in and of itself makes you kind of a dumbass — I mean, come on, when you’re denying global warming, you’re denying basic physics, while simultaneously arguing that there really is such a thing as a free lunch), but to suggest that there’s no evidence at all stretches the limit of dumbassery. :)

    Number 9:

Who the hell is Chicken Licken? Chicken Little, I’m familiar with, but Chicken Licken?
