Slimeball Karl Rove subpoenaed

It’s time for a frogmarch.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) issued a subpoena today to former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove for testimony about politicization of the Department of Justice (DOJ), including the case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, who was jailed for bribery in what was widely seen as a political prosecution.

If Rove refuses to testify voluntarily and ignores the subpoenas, he will be held in Inherent Contempt of the House of Representatives.

No American is above the law. None of us should be able to ignore Congress without consequence.
If Mr. Rove ignores a subpoena from the Judiciary Committee, then the House of Representatives will pass an Inherent Contempt citation and exercise their right to send the House Sergeant-of-Arms to arrest Mr. Rove and bring him before Congress to testify, by force if necessary.

The reality is that Congress has few options left against an Administration that totally refuses to submit to any type of reasonable Congressional oversight. Congress has both the right and obligation to investigate these matters. Never before has an administration so upset the checks and balances inherent in our Constitution. If the Congress does not do this, they effectively forfeit their power to investigate the Executive branch.

Rove is not the first White House official to ignore Congress. We have seen a pattern of refusals based on laughable claims of executive privilege. First, White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers ignored subpoenas on the investigation into the firing of US Attorney Generals for partisan political motives.

It’s time to kick some ass and hold these crooks accountable.  Bushies control the Attorney Generals office and the Federal courts, so the Congress MUST use their Constitutional rights to enforce this subpoena !

Hmmmm, “No one is above the law”? That is interesting…that slimeball 42nd POTUS proved that statement isn’t true.

mike from dumbfuckistan weighs in. there’s a redneck in the house, a really dumb one.

if there ever was a president that deserved impeachment, it is 43, not 42. wake up asshole, clinton had a 68% approval rating during impeachment, seen Bush’s lately? today gallup says 85% say the country is on the wrong track. 1998-99 uder clinton, as many as 70% said the country is on the right track. wtf is wrong with you, are you ignorant, stupid or retarded? are all people in cookeville as dumb as you, or are you just the product of incest?

    Er, uh…

Opinion polls have no relevance on impeachment. Either there is evidence or there isn’t. Now, I suspect the evidence is out there to impeach 43, but suspicion doesn’t constitute grounds for impeachment anymore than opinion polls do.

Unfortunately, Clinton got caught lying under oath, and dernit, ya’ just can’t do that.

I suspect that’s why the Bush administration slimeballs have so far refused to testify under oath. Apparantly efforts are underway to change that. I hope they are successful.

Heh… great comparison. One guy gets impeached for sex, another guy lies to America, commits war crimes and murders over 100,000 … gets off scot free.

Hopefully we’ll see GWB prosecuted at an international war crimes tribunal. Or for murder.

William, slow down and take a deep breath, then say “Clinton was impeached for lying under path, not for sex.”

I can’t help but wonder how all you Clinton apologists would re-act if there ever was a Republican president that ever got caught sexually abusing an intern. You and the media would come completely unhinged. Bunch of hypocrites!

    sexually abusing an intern

That’s right — no sex between adults is ever consensual. That’s why the GOP likes to either pay for sex, or have sex with barnyard animals.

That’s right — no sex between adults is ever consensual.

Sex with an underling, even if consensual, can still be considered sexual harassment, and it has been brought before numerous juries and found merit. There’s an implied threat if Monica had not performed sexual favors for Bill. If she didn’t, he could have torpedoed her letters of recommendation from her internship. He was in a position of power and could have wrecked her career had she not complied with his wishes. As such, the sex, even if it was supposedly consensual, is still an abuse of power, and it’s why people who are in positions of power over others should never seek a sexual relationship with that person.

The death of the feminist movement was at the hands of Bill Clinton. He singlehandedly destroyed all credibility NOW had, as they couldn’t object to his actions and be good Democratic footsoldiers. Instead they sold everything they stood for down the river to glorify the name Clinton.

    JP,
Who said, “no sex between adults is ever consensual”?

    William,
You crack me up. If the Bush Branch ever started throwing around subpoenas “for political purposes” (not that Conyers is doing that . . .) you’d be calling for him to be impeached on an additional 100 counts.

In any event, you Libs have a large majority in the House . . . go ahead and try and “frogmarch” Rove.
