John McCain: Build 45 new Nuclear Power Reactors by 2030

It’s about damn time. The world is leaving us behind in reactor construction and implementation.

From Reuters (NOT those f-heads AP)…

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (Reuters) - Republican John McCain would put the United States on course to build 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030 if elected president, the Arizona senator said on Wednesday.

McCain, his party’s presumptive nominee in this fall’s presidential election, is laying out his plan to make the country energy independent.

“If I am elected president, I will set this nation on a course to building 45 new reactors by the year 2030, with the ultimate goal of 100 new plants to power the homes and factories and cities of America,” he said.

We currently have 104 operating Power Reactors, good for 20% of our grid requirements. France has 59 NPR’s, supplying 75% of their power. France exports power. Why are the French so far ahead of U.S.?

The present situation is due to the French government deciding in 1974, just after the first oil shock, to expand rapidly the country’s nuclear power capacity. This decision was taken in the context of France having substantial heavy engineering expertise but few indigenous energy resources. Nuclear energy, with the fuel cost being a relatively small part of the overall cost, made good sense in minimising imports and achieving greater energy security.

As a result of the 1974 decision, France now claims a substantial level of energy independence and almost the lowest cost electricity in Europe. It also has an extremely low level of CO2 emissions per capita from electricity generation, since over 90% of its electricity is nuclear or hydro.

What did we do here in the USA?

Listen to the stinkin’ hippies.

Thanks, azzholes. Now get busy helping us catch up with France.

    Yeah, blame the hippies.

America had demonstrated a corporate culture of corruption that leads to displays of incompetance like Enron and Three Mile Island.

I say we put the first one Smyrna.

Don’t we have one in East Tennessee. Certainly wouldn’t be the end of the world to put one in Rutherford County.

    Yeah, blame the hippies.

Hell yes blame the hippies. For forty years they have screwed up this country. We have come full circle from 1968. Name one thing hippies have done to make this country better, safer, or secure. From inflation, air pollution, jobs overseas, to the national debt, hippies have hurt America.

Does your car run on bunnies and rainbows? Mine runs on gas.

Know how to spot a hippie? They blame corporate America for the problems of the world. Sound familiar?

The French nuclear program is a success because they put their smartest people in charge of important stuff like that. They don’t have nuclear disasters. Productivity and competence matter. In America, kissing ass is the key to climbing the corporate ladder. Look at the failure of the big three Auto makers, for example. I’m sure you’ll figure out a way to blame that on hippies somehow.

I have personally known worthless SOBs that cheated and partied through college, got their MBAs, graduated not qualified to run an automatic car wash, were in the right frat, came from money, and got high paying corner office executive jobs right out of school. Anecdotal or not, it’s fairly typical.

But hippies don’t blame ALL of the world’s problems on corporate America, only the ones they are actually responsible for.

You gotta give them hippies credit. They introduced the drug culture to our youth; they gave us free sex (and sex-related diseases); they’ve gotten into our government and (as the Liberal Democratic Party) have screwed up government as much as they’ve screwed up popular culture.

Remember one of their favorite catch phrase? “Turn on, tune in, drop out”. Drugs, sex, and fucked-up politics. Quite a legacy.

ROR, have you forgotten that absolutely no member of the public was harmed after the TMI accident? See this report written five years after the accident.

Since Three Mile Island, several nuclear plants, such as Seabrook in New Hampshire and Diablo Canyon in California, have become the focus of sustained attacks by ad hoc environmental and anti-nuclear groups. But others, such as St. Lucie in Florida, have enjoyed notably trouble-free construction.

Hobart noted that, “Public attitudes about nuclear power seem to vary considerably from place to place. There’s sort of a feeling that there’s a national movement of people that are concerned about the safety and economics of nuclear power plants, but that isn’t necessarily true.” [Imagine that. California, opposition, also home of the hippies. -ed]

But the possibility of a well-organized and highly motivated campaign by “intervenors” against a proposed nuclear plant has, in the post-TMI era, become a permament part of the equation.

“Public animosity ends up being an economic factor if it slows down the licensing of a plant, if it stops construction because there are pickets, if it impedes your ability to get an operating license,” said Hobart. “All those things end up changing the economics, because time is money. Opposition alters economics.”

Opposition that didn’t happen in France. They must’ve surrendered…

No I haven’t forgotten, but that was due to blind luck. It easily could have gone the other way.

At least your critisicm of hippies isn’t completely delusional.

But hippies were right about civil rights, Nixon, and Viet Nam.

Unfortunately some of Nixon’s scumbag minions have hijacked the ship once again, a sad fact that mainstream America is only recently waking up to, while the hippies knew what was going to happen from day one, Jan 20, 2001.

That’s right, folx — these did not exist before the all-powerful hippies, who have mown over the weak-ass GOP for more than forty years!

Obviously, their worship of Satan proves that Satan is more powerful than the wimpy fundy god that the heartland worships. Their prayers have consistently been answered!

Oh, those temptations existed, JP, and the weak-minded always fall in those traps. Or, as religions point out, temptations led them astray. The Devil made ‘em do it. Not that they worshiped satan (the Manson sorts did, but they were in the minority); they worshiped ’self’. They loved them’self’s more than they loved anything else. They set ’self’ up in the God-head, instead of God, and became self-absorbed, self-centered and self-indulgent. Narcissistic. Weak. Needing help.

Thus was born Liberals, to ’self’-help themselves to the successful, God-fearing sorts who work hard, pay taxes, and become the Liberal’s betters; because we support them. And, we pity them, really, those who are so dependent on others.

    God bless your hedonistic souls.
