Lookin’ beyond the headlines . . .
John Fund has an interesting op/ed today concerning McCain v. Obama. Here’s the first paragraph:
Some pundits claim John McCain has no chance of beating Barack Obama. “The current bundle of economic troubles should doom any Republican hoping to succeed George Bush,” says NBC’s Chris Matthews. “It’s almost impossible to believe that another Republican could get elected,” insists Katty Kay, the BBC’s Washington-based correspondent. They need to better understand the rhythms of presidential campaigns and show more humility in a year that’s been chock full of political surprises.
I, of course, thought of William’s exuberant posts about his man Obama, but the most interesting thing for me was how readily debunk-able is William’s Inevitable Obama campaign is. Frankly, I haven’t even looked at the polls that William cited . . . November’s a long way off and the non-primary campaign is just starting. But how naive is it to rely on polls of “register voters” when forecasting a presidential race?
You’ve got this one in the bag!
Uh, okay, HBK.
Imagine going through life with one goal: to vote for conservatives so they can appoint judges to fuck over women How about that for the basis of a poitical position? Nice.
Obama’s a fun candidate to bash. A messiah to his followers…imagine that! What normally happens to messiahs after the flock gets weary and the message is proved empty? When reality sets in, when Obama is facing ever-more-costly oil and still refuses to drill off of our coasts and in ANWR for our own oil; when people really start hurting…what’s he gonna do then? Usher in coast-to-coast socialism? Socialize oil companies, health care, the housing industry, the food industry, and cable TV?
Will Baracky be the president who ‘changes’ America from what we knew and loved to what we fear the most?
Obama is a no-deep-issue hopey-changey sort of punching bag with big ears. His presidency is dead on arrival.
If he wins, I’ll have fun watching his own ‘people’ turn on him.
Socialize oil companies, health care, the housing industry, the food industry, and cable TV?
With the exception of housing, each and every one of these things are effectively monopolized, right this instant. Price-fixing abounds, and the GOP couldn’t give less than 1/10th of 1% of a fuck about it.
Meanwhile, you’re taking it right up the ass like the rest of us, only you don’t feel it, being as you are 150% concentrated on Jeebus and guns and fags and flag pins, and whatnot.
.
Will Baracky be the president who ‘changes’ America from what we knew and loved to what we fear the most?
The ass-wiping with the Constitution that’s happened the last 7.5 years has seen that come to pass, but you aren’t paying attention. For you, America is not its ideals. It’s something else, entirely.
.
And you know, only an idiot gets a woodie looking at poll numbers for “registered voters.”
