The Bush Administration makes bin Laden’s wish come true
Thanks to GW Bush, Osama bin Laden is smiling somewhere.
There is no longer any debate about the fact that bin Laden was allowed to escape when the US had him cornered back in 2002 at Tora Bora (as described in a CIA ground commander’s book: Jawbreaker), the Bush administration had admitted this failure. Bush had surrounded himself with idiots, particularly Rumsfeld and Gen. Tommy Franks who made the misjudgement to allow bin Laden to escape. Of course in this Administration, the bigger the fuckup, the bigger the medal. (Tommy Franks received the Presidential Medal of Freedom).
Now, al Qaeda and the Taliban are flourishing because Bush has screwed America by getting the US military mired in Iraq. Admiral Mullen, the top US Military Commander said we don’t have additional troops to fight in Afghanistan because of Iraq.
The final insult has been brought to fruition: Bin Laden said in a 1998 interview that the oil should cost $144 a barrel, not the $11 that it cost ten years ago. Guess what? Oil is $145 a barrel - 13 times more than it was 10 years ago! Bush’s catastrophic decision to invade Iraq, sink the nation into debt to pay for that war, and consequently, weaken the dollar have all caused oil prices to soar astronomically.
The NYT wrote in 2001, 3 weeks after 9/11, “nightmare scenarios” where bin Laden would get his wish of $144 a barrel oil. One of those “nightmare scenarios” was to invade Iraq.
(TP:)Testifying before the House Foreign Affairs Committee last May, Anne Korin, the co-director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, reminded Congress about bin Laden’s goal:
About ten years ago, Osama bin Laden stated that his target price for oil is $144 a barrel and that the American people, who allegedly robbed the Muslim people of their oil, owe each Muslim man, woman, and child $30,000 in back payments. At the time, $144 a barrel seemed far fetched to most.
I would like to impress upon this Committee that $144 a barrel oil will be perceived as a victory for the Jihadist movement and a reaffirmation that the economic warfare component of its campaign against the West is a resounding success. There is no need to elaborate on the implications of such a victory in terms of loss of U.S. prestige and our ability to prevail in the Long War of the 21st century.
bin-Laden isn’t the only one that loves it when international tensions aggravate the energy markets.
While you were ignoring my question, William, you also put up a post entirely dedicated to the wrong group. From the article:
Get your stuff straight.
Captn, al Qaeda and the Taliban are often used in the same sentence to describe the Afghan/Pakistan insurgency and terror threat. Speaking of al Qaeda and the Taliban, Bush said: “We will make no distinction between those who committed these acts and those who harbor them.” … But thanks, I edited the post
For fucks sake, William. The article says ‘The Taliban”. It does not say “Al Queda”.
How about you stop being such a blockhead and fix your mistakes without rationalizing them. Or are you too big of an egoist authoritarian to admit even the most basic and trivial of errors?
Captn, the message is the same: Bush’s Iraq policy has fucked America - al Qaeda and the Taliban are now as much of a threat as they have ever been because Bush has hamstrung America’s military in Iraq. What part of that don’t you understand?
From Voice of America News:
Military and political analysts in Pakistan are expressing growing concern that al-Qaida and Taliban-linked insurgents are now emerging from their traditional strongholds along the border with Afghanistan and are becoming a serious threat to the entire country.
Imagine a world where we had a competent president who didn’t go on vacation for a month before 9/11 and took the warnings seriously. Or if 9/11 couldn’t have been prevented, he didn’t take his eye off the ball, established security in Afghanistan, captured bin Laden with the help of Pakistan, created an alliance with Iran against a common enemy, Saddam Hussein. Where, instead of alienating our allies like Turkey and Saudi Arabia, we created more partners in the war against terror, helped to work toward stability and cooperation in the region, kept America’s alliances strong and created new ones. I wonder what the price of oil would be under that scenario? Call me a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.
I hate the man. Either he is too dumb to realize what he’s doing and Jesus might forgive him. Although I doubt he’s ever really talked to god regardless of what he says. Or he knows what he’s doing and he’ll rot in hell. And I can’t stand these people that won’t put faith in Obama because he’s a “Muslim”, not a citizen, won’t say god, is too young, doesn’t observe the pledge, or he’s too popular. haha, what! All of those rumors are blatant lies too. And too popular, haha I’ve got news for the republicans. You have no chance with people that actually understand politics and liars. It also don’t help when the supposed “christian” candidate has already lied in his first ad. “The McCain energy plan” with windmill turbines in the background when the man has voted against EVERY law for alternative energy. Who wants to support a man that’s lying from the get go. It’s also sad that he’ll say he’s not partisan with the Republicans, but he’s voted FOR A FACT 90% of the time with Bush. That’s bad bad news for anybody that supports McCain. Don’t get me wrong McCain deserves praise for what he’s sacrificed for this country, but he doesn’t posses any of the skills required for being our president.
