Russia threatens military response to Czech-U.S. missile deal
How about this for saber-rattling…
“Russia threatened to retaliate by military means after a deal with the Czech Republic brought the US missile defence system in Europe a step closer.“The threat followed quickly on from the announcement that Condoleezza Rice signed a formal agreement with the Czech Republic to host the radar for the controversial project.
…
“We will be forced to react not with diplomatic, but with military-technical methods,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
And, this…
Russia’s envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, said the U.S.-Czech deal undermines European security and pushes the world toward a new arms race.“Missile defense systems in the Czech Republic and Poland are a totally destabilizing element between the East and the West. The Czech authorities have surrendered their people to nuclear slaughter in favor of the interests of military and industrial groups,” he said.
Russia thinks the ‘delicate balance’ of international Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) will be shifted if we can actually block their ICBM’s, or shorter-range missiles.
Methinks they want some more worldwide attention. And to reclaim their ‘I’m a bad boy too’ image, lost after the U.S.S.R went broke and disbanded after Ronald Reagan’s brilliant strategy to break them financially.
Recent rattlings…
“Russia resumed strategic bomber patrol flights over the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans last August, following an order signed by former president Vladimir Putin. Russian bombers have since carried out over 80 strategic patrol flights and have often been escorted by NATO planes.”
“Russia’s arms exports are expected to exceed $6 bln this year, the chief executive of the state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport said Wednesday. In an interview with the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily, Anatoly Isaikin said Russia’s arms exports grew from less than $3 billion in 2000 to $6.1 billion in 2007.”
So, Democrats, if you are so concerned with ‘world peace’, what’s your appeasement plan for this?
Meanwhile, in Iran…

And we have former Pennslyvania representative Curt Weldon (R) to thank for some of that.

Considering these bomber patrols were discontinued under Clinton in 92 and then reinstated under Bush after his belligerent policies were demonstrated, we see the result of cowboy diplomacy. Thats why we need a vote for change and a safer world.
Blame Bush.
See here.
William,
Wow. Assuming your facts are accurate, you’re saying that actions by Russia in 1992 (within a year of the collapse of the USSR) are apples to actions by Russia in 2008?
