Jeff Goldstein alerts us to the not-so-hidden inner thoughts of the people who drive the engine of progressivism, by way of comments posted on that wonderful island of tolerance and compassion, the award-winning and much-celebrated Daily KOS.
Jeff compiled quite a list of comments celebrating the unfortunate death of Tony Snow. Tony died yesterday, of colon cancer. A compassionate human KOS diarist (not so many of those) posted a tribute to Tony, but other ‘Progressives’ were quick to spout their true feelings.

It’s about standing up for justice and human rights, and not just when it’s convenient, i.e., in our “national interests” to do so.

Well, I certainly don’t subscribe to the notion that a person automatically deserves respect because they happen to be deceased. A sonofabitch is a sonofabitch, living or dead. That doesn’t make me a moral relativist. However, I really don’t know if Tony Snow was a sonofabitch or not. If not, your criticisms are arguably legitimate.
But that’s actually beside the point. The point that impugning “progressivism” itself because some people claiming to be progressives exhibit characteristics that may be deemed “intolerant” or “uncompassionate” is non sequitur.

To be more specific, there is no hypocrisy, as your post implies, because “progressivism” makes no claim to be inherently and necessarily tolerant or compassionate. For example, a progressive is not going to assume an obligation to “tolerate” ID, or feel “compassion” for a racist sonofabitch, simply predicated on “progressivism”. If you believe that qualifies these people as “assholes” you are of course entitled to that opinion.

It’s about the surviving family, really.
There’s times that it’s just not right to further a political agenda. I submit that those times include the very day a person dies, or the days before the funeral.
When Jesse Helms died, there was this same sort of stuff, but no one really questioned that. After all, he was 80-something, and well past retirement. But Tony, now, 53, that’s still young; and with three kids: 10, 11, and 14.
There’s absolutely no reason for the Kos commenter’s behavior. Or similar behavior by ‘progressives’ on dozens of sister sites.

The comments about the death of Tony Snow are just unbelievable. How would you feel if people wanted you or your family to suffer? The language you use is so immature. As a very brilliant man once said: “Profanity is the attempt to express feeble ideas forcibly!”
Tony Snow was a gentleman, a man of ideals, family, and a love for this country, which with its problems, is still the finest country in the world. Many people lose their lives, each year, trying to come to this land which was foreordained, before the earth was created, to be a land of liberty, and the New Jerusalem.
