Lies About Sarah Palin Debunked

Reading leftwing blogs these days is quite difficult. It’s as if they all, in lock step, are following the advice of one of their heroes Vladimir Lenin who said “A lie told often enough becomes truth.”

Here is a partial list of some of the lies told about Sarah Palin, reprinted with permission from Explorations. For the full list, which by the way is quite long, click here.

Lie #1: She wants to force Creationism into school curricula.

Truth. Plain believes that discussions in the classroom should not be artificially restricted, and that if the subject comes up, teachers and students should be free to discuss any theory. This is the best approach, since any reasonable discussion of Intelligent Design will immediately reveal its shortcomings as good science. As governor, Palin made no effort to put Creationism into the curriculum, nor did she use it as a litmus test for State hiring.Source

Lie #2: Palin favors abstinence only education.

Truth. While Palin may prefer abstinence only, she supports contraceptive education in schools. Source.

Lie #3: Palin is a book burner.

Truth. Palin asked the town librarian what she would do if asked to pull some books from the shelves. The librarian was outraged and Palin dropped the subject. Months later, the librarian, who was a strong supporter of the previous mayor, was asked to resign. The town rose in her support, and Palin withdrew the request. No books were burned or banned, or removed from library shelves, and there is no evidence that Palin had a list of books in mind. Source.

The list running around the internet, source, is actually a list of books that have been banned many times, all across America. It is a fraud. The first clue is that many of the books on this list weren’t published at the time Palin was mayor. This hasn’t stopped the list from being widely circulated among liberal websites like Kos and the Obama campaign website where it appeared for awhile before being scrubbed.

Lie #4: She was a member of the Alaska Independence Party and supported secession.

Truth. Palin spoke at an AIP convention when it was held in her hometown of Wasilla, but has been a registered Republican since 1982. Considering that she was mayor at the time of the convention, her speaking at it seems more of a political necessity, and plain good manners, than an endorsement of their views, much less an admission of membership. Source.

Lie #5: Palin cut funding for programs that would support unwed teenaged mothers.

Truth. Palin increased funding for the program in question, to the tune of $3.9 million dollars over several years. Source. She did cut the size of the increase in funding. In 2006, the Covenant house received government grants of 1.2 million. In 2007, they got 1.3 million. In 2008, they get 3.9 million with the rest of the 5 million coming in the next fiscal year. Source.

Lie #6: Palin cut funding for special needs education.

Truth. Palin increased funding for special needs education in Alaska by 175% over the next three years, from $26,900 to $73,840 per student. Source.

Lie #7: Palin lied about selling the Governor’s plane on eBay.

Truth. Palin didn’t say she sold it on eBay; she said she put it on eBay. It didn’t sell, so she sold it through a broker. Whether the state profited on the sale or not has been the subject of discussion. Source.

Sadly, without checking any sources, people like GoldnI, Sharon Cobb, S-town Mike, William, and many others, continue to post these debunked lies, without ever checking their sources. Of course they really don’t care whether these smears are true or not, as long as they accomplish an end to justify their means.

What is this a dispatch from Jonestown?

Truth. John McCain said Palin sold the plane on eBay. You know, McCain: the top of the ticket.

    S-townMike, another Williamesque leftist.

The plane was sold. That’s all that matters. Government waste, curtailed. Sarah Palin, enemy of government waste. Do you know how hard it is to sell a plane? A friend is trying to sell his turboprop right now, and has been for months…guess what? No one is buying.

Funny Mike, I thought Obama was running against Palin now.

In the meantime, Obama just lied about thinking about joining the military (he registered when he was a sophomore in college). Whew! Glad it wasn’t about where a plane was sold. I mean, that’s a real scandal.

(he registered when he was a sophomore in college)

Sounds right. That would’ve been 1981, which, IIRC, is the year the Selective Service registration requirement went back into effect (it may have been a little earlier, but I know that’s the year I turned 18, and I recall signing up at a post office in Bumfuck, WV, as our car was held up by a train crossing through town).

I’m not from there, actually. I was passing through with a carload of friends, on my way back from a vacation we all took, post-graduation. IIRC, I had to register by the end of my birthmonth, and it was probably the last day of the month. We were stopped by the train right in front of the USPS in… um, I think might have been White Sulphur Springs, WV, actually.

If I run for office, y’all can check the kerning on that. Get yer FOIA requests ready! ;)

I do check my sources and I debunked the list of books as inaccurate.
She did want to ban books, but not the list that is going around.

“Reading leftwing blogs these days is quite difficult. It’s as if they all, in lock step, are following the advice of one of their heroes Vladimir Lenin who said “A lie told often enough becomes truth.””

Woah there. Slow down, buddy. Firstly, you don’t find it the least bit ironic that you’re perpetuating the lie that all “leftists” are communists?

Secondly, there are plenty of left-leaning blogs that condemn Palin smears just as much as you’ve done here.

Lastly, don’t pretend that the right hasn’t spread its share of lies as well. Or do you honestly believe Osama — sorry, Obama — is a secret muslim who won’t say the pledge of allegiance?

I like to think every American with common sense despises baseless smears, no matter which side of the aisle they’re coming from.

I actually really appreciate this list, but, man, way to open it up with a baseless smear of your own. If you really want to reach people, and promote a true exchange of ideas, leave that shit out.

Palin is just not smart. Some people read to learn others can’t fry a egg. There are some that can fix things others never touch tools.
I believe Sara Palin talk from a small portion of her brain and speaks fast and she herself dos not know what she says. If you ask her opinion of any historical event she goes blank but her handlers have told keep talking don’t stop.
So this is why she make no sense when being asked a question.
I think she a good manipulator and there is still a side of her that is secret.Any woman in government who can hide a pregnancy from co workers as well as family members for 8 month has to be a sneaky con.
What I don’t understand why the Republicans think she will make a great VP.
John McCain wants complete control and that inc. the VP. The reason so many come to see her speak is that there are so many men who want to see this pretty woman. So sad.McCain is the problem.Get him away as soon as possible go to one of your houses and take up gardening You blew it bud.
