John McCain: a tough day for the old man

It started out on Good Morning America where we had Cindy and John McCain together… where the truth that Cindy McCain (like Laura Bush) opposes overturning Roe v. Wade.  John says that he and his wife are “pro-life.” So what does Cindy do?  She completely avoids the question:

SAWYER: But, Mrs. McCain, do you oppose the repeal of Roe v. Wade? Was that report correct?

C. MCCAIN: You know, there are people that are without jobs, that are hurting, whose businesses have collapsed, who don’t know where they’re going to find money to feed their families. This is not the major issue on people’s minds right now.

Awkward moment!

During the same interview, McCain flip-flopped on the AIG bailout that he was against less than 24 hours before.

Then, grandpa McCain visits a GM auto plant where he was greeted with workers wearing Obama t-shirts and buttons, and finally, workers loudly chanting:

“Obama oh - 8, Obama oh - 8″

During the Town Hall meeting that followed, Palin took questions while at McCain’s side for protection.  She was asked about her “specific skills” she could cite to rebut critics who question her grasp of international affairs, she replied, “I am prepared. I have that confidence. I have that readiness.”

Did I hear a specific skill in there?

CNN’s lead story by early afternoon was that Palin’s employees would ignore subpoenas in the “trooper-gate” investigation.   The McCain campaign is so desperate to stall the investigation that it took a top US terrorism prosecutor from New York, Ed O’Callaghan, to assist Palin’s personal lawyer to attempt to derail the investigation.  This in and of itself prompted a Newsweek story: “Can he stop Trooper-Gate”

By afternoon, it became apparent with the new polls that his campaign had started suffering from the backlash caused by the debunked lies in his ads.   NYT/CBS poll had: Obama +5, Gallup: Obama +2, Rueters/Zogby: Obama +2, and Hotline/FD: Obama +3.

McCain’s view of our “fundamentally strong” economy didn’t look so good on Wall Street today, as the Dow fell 450 points.  The US Dollar dropped badly,1.6% against the Euro, and 2.1% against the Brit Pound.

NBC Nightly News debunked McCain/Palin’s lies this evening.

Having had enough for one day, sources say McCain/Palin reneged on an agreement to appear on CNN’s Larry King tonight.  Better stay with Sean Hannity … where it’s safe.

Tomorrow’s another day… no where to go but down, down, down for McCain/Palin.
