Obama: Affirmative Affordabilism..Actioning the Bubble

I went to Columbia University and they didn’t have enough affordable housing. So I lived in about eight different places during the time that I was there. It’s not just good enough that the real estate market is prospering for some, but everybody has to be able to have affordable housing. We’ve got to make sure that our streets are safe, not just in those areas where the wealthy live but all through the City of New York.” –Barack Obama, November 2005

(How did Barack get into Harvard, again?)

Fred Thompson, on the Fannie-Freddie disaster

Lost in this immense, complex mess is the root problem most people are missing: the government is gradually becoming the guarantor of seemingly every important aspect of American secular life, creating incentives and bureaucracies that cause failure and invite fraud. In Fan and Fred’s case, it was in no one’s interest to turn off the bubble machine. Just the opposite. The system induced borrowers to take on financial obligations they could not afford and lenders to lower lending standards. Fannie and Freddie went along because their managers’ compensation depended on the firms’ short term financial performance. And investors continued to buy complex security packages they didn’t understand, because the securities were viewed as government-backed.

Heavy campaign contributions by those benefiting from this scheme induced Members of Congress to avert their gaze from the ugly mess that was unfolding.

Oh…did Fred mention “Campaign Contributions”? Keeping the dream alive, no?

Democrats lurv that affirmative action and the associated code words derived therefrom. Just check a politically corrected campus near you.

Their chickens are coming home to ROOST!
