As for the Ayers charges, if it is left as a stand-alone event and not tied directly to a pattern of Obama associating with a horrible crowd, it will have the same results as Bill Clinton’s draft-dodging charges had on him in ‘92. None.

You were all over the McCain campaign to hit Obama for the whopping $145K he got from Fannie/Freddie employees, and look how well THAT worked out for you: come to found out McCain’s campaign manager got millions from them.
McCain hits Obama on Rezko, Obama hits back on Keating (which, though a long time ago, resonates today because of the current financial mess). Palin hits Obama on Wright, and Obama can hit back about her church. McCain/Palin hit Obama on Ayers, and Obama can hit back on the secessionist AIP. (Palin’s ties to the AIP are tenuous? Nobody denies that she was a guest speaker at their convention, and that’s already a closer tie than Obama has to Ayers…)
These attacks are almost certain to backfire for McCain, especially now that the table has been set such that the public will view McCain’s attacks as attempt to change the subject away from the economy (by the McCain camp’s own admission, by the way…)
