Is the South conducting another ‘Civil War’ against the North? Yes, says Michael Lind

Salon dot com claims the South (that’s us, William) is conducting an ‘economic Civil War’ against the North’s auto industry, because (now get this!) we subsidize Japanese, Korean and German transplant factories, and these factories undermine the rights of the UAW to help foist overly expensive junk on American consumers. This insufferable prick (Michael Lind) calls for a ‘Third Reconstruction‘ to ‘put an end to it’ (preceded by, I suppose, another Shermanesque march to the sea, and followed by carpet baggers from the North installing Unions in every business with more than 3 employees..) Lind calls for ‘national action’, including raising the minimum wage to $12/hr. and ‘federal revenue-sharing’ (as if there aren’t enough bailouts already?) to properly fund public education and services..this paid for by further taxes on the ‘rich’.Fortunately, Velociman posted an excellent Insta-launched retort that circumcises Lind quite effectively. I’ll quote briefly..
The man is simply mad. Here’s the Ray Bolger he sets up: the South is exploiting labor by providing jobs in a low-service environment, as opposed to the North, which provides some ephemeral “adequate public service funding”. The Southern model is obviously immoral and grievious, and must be corrected by forcible Federal intervention. This is of course of a sort with all liberal fantasies of the proper use of power: the armed forces are never to be used against a belligerent enemy; Federal bayonets are only suitable for use in coercing fellow citizens to toe the fucking line. Most especially stupid redneck sisterfuckers….
I noticed, by the by, that Mr. Lind never states the blindingly obvious: Detroit isn’t bankrupt because of a few automobile plants in the South. They are insolvent because their business model is as putrid as Gacy’s date in a crawlspace. The combination of managerial greed, union greed, and insufferable government mandates combined to slay an industry that has been essentially producing unwanted junk for 35 years anyway. These Yankee protectionists need to take the buggy whips out of their collective asses and throw them upon the bonfire of history. It’s not broke, idiots: it’s fucking dead. And unless the next CEO of General Motors is Jesus H.M.S. Christ it will stay dead. Unless the Corkers of the Senate have their way, and the industry is reborn with a foundation of economic viability, shareholder oversight, and viable product offerings.
That, my friends, is a Southern-style lynching. Velociman is now installed in my RSS reader, right up there with Iowahawk and Jeff Goldstein.

The UAW Commies somehow caused Toyota to tank, too!
.
I guess Lind forgot that there’s a Honda plant in Ohio. The South, right?
OH, and “General Motors now has a market valuation about a third of Bed, Bath And Beyond…”
And what about all the illiberals who drive Volvos, Subarus &c.? Didn’t they know they should be buying only Union-thug-built merchandise?
It was just UAW members buying non-U.S. vehicles. And poor people (that don’t really exist in the U.S. of A., ’cause everyone has a microwave oven!), of course. Poor people buy a lot of Beemers and Mercs.

“By typing in “united auto workers,” we see an average salary of $49,000. “Car/auto sales” is approximately $50,000. “Car/auto mechanic” comes out at about $38,000. “Car/auto parts sales” averages about $37,000, and “auto technician” shows $34,000. However, the UAW website offers an hourly salary of nearly $36 per hour (that includes benefits), which when calculated at a standard eight hours per day, five days a week, and 50 weeks per year, equals an average salary of approximately $72,000 per year. Nice.
“Some of the auto companies seeking government funding also offer at least 14 days of holiday pay, two to five weeks of paid vacation time, and a full company 401k match up to 50% of an employee’s total salary. And even after some workers retire, they are entitled to a pension of over $32,000 per year. Very nice.
“Compare these numbers to the median American salary of just over $32,000. Even the lower job search estimates surpass this more than sufficient average.”
No wonder they’re praying.
You, JP, should sell those two foreign-built egg-beaters you pilot (nice heaters they have, eh?) and buy an American-made (unionized) Harley-Davidson. That 1600 cc motor will help keep you warm, at least at the red lights.
And, you’ll tacitly and indirectly support one of the largest donors to the Democrats, the Unions.
We might start to see scolds from the Democrat leadership decrying and denouncing any Dem who buys foreign-made (or foreign-transplant-made) vehicles. Conversely, while I’ve always preferred Detroit steel, I must reconsider, given that the Unions solidly favor the leftists.
I guess it’ll have to be a 4-Runner or a Pathfinder next year. JP, if you need a deal on a barely-used Suburban, lemme know… )
If H-D made a quality, small-engine gas-sipper, I’d be looking to get one. As it is, there’s little point in driving a bike with a car engine in it.
.
Harley did make a scooter. Once.
And why stop at a mere car engine? I’ll bet this one would keep you warm..
Of course, I ride for much different reasons than the typical H-D rider.
Point being: America could make good scooters and motorcycles. They generally don’t, though.
.
JP, your next car is here~!
Whether or not there is a civil war doesn’t depend on Obama, it depends on us.
IMHO spewing hate is counterproductive in this regard.
If we turn against each other, thereby collectively giving up the pretense that we have even the slightest moral inclination regarding the idea that it is not O.K. to commit murder, fraud and other crimes in order to secure our worldly possessions, then we will finally forfeit any last claim to what remains of our God-given liberty.
Murderers like Dick Cheney and Henry Kissinger and thieves like the Clintons and Henry Paulson will rejoice in their triumph! Finally the pesky rabble demanding their liberty and justice will be subjugated and they will have free reign to rape, pillage, and unleash weapons of mass destruction against all the peasants of the Earth.
If there are any survivors they may compose philosophy, some of which may become the seeds of some future religion, warning of the dangers of hatred and revealing that it is actually in one’s own interest to care about the well-being of one’s fellow man, even perceived adversaries and supposedly mortal enemies, virtually as dearly as one cares about oneself; which will probably eventually be perverted and disregarded by future civilizations that manage to allow themselves to be utterly deceived and completely controlled by wealthy, immoral fools.
What is really ironic is how modern Americans “wonder” how the German people could have been so ignorant as to allow the Nazis to take over Germany and unleash the horrors of the Nazi regime.
How can basic things essential to civilization, like spiritual wisdom and recent history, be hidden in plain sight?
Too much reliance on self-proclaimed “experts” and “leaders” perhaps?
How many times do we hear one of these criminals tell us:
“The American people are looking for…”
“What the American people want…”
“The American people are looking to such and such for leadership…”
Uh, pardon me, but shouldn’t we be telling them what we are looking for. Like when we screamed NO to giving control of the public treasury to the banking mafia and Congress went ahead and DID IT ANYWAY!
Well, folks, that’s how criminals take over. The election of a new administration has not “changed” anything, but it may offer an opportunity if we act firmly but lawfully to work together to make change ourselves in these troubled times.
We shouldn’t argue about ideology, capitalism, socialism, fascism, communist, left or right, whatever. That is just dialectic, a distraction. The only issue is honesty vs. corruption. The so called “prosperity” that Americans have until recently learned to take for granted has come by means of corruption. That corruption is no longer hiding in the shadows but is before our eyes to be seen by all with the courage to see.
Our responsibility as citizens is to know the law and enforce it. We can’t rely on “leaders” and “experts” to tell us what to think. We all should have a conception of right and wrong, basic justice, and that is the key to finding the right path towards getting America back on track towards the pursuit of liberty, justice and peace. Only then will prosperity be a realistic goal.
This north vs south stuff is BS. We are one America. Southern cities are growing primarily because of the influx of people from the North. 90% of people I work with in Nashville are not from TN. I have to say, those that are from TN stick out… not in a good way.
Rob, I’m not from the South either, but I’ll say on Southerner’s behalf, don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way back to your Northern overpopulation center.
All cities had to start as small communities. As a typical city’s population increases, so does the influx of social liberalism…to the point now that I can’t name any large (or many medium)-sized cities that’s not liberal strongholds.
I worry for their long-term sustainability.
