Don’t Believe For A Second That Obama Cares About Growth. He Is More Concerned With Being “Transformative”

February 28th, 2009 . by glendean

Kudlow is right, Obama is waging a war on capitalism.

He is declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds.

That is the meaning of his anti-growth tax-hike proposals, which make absolutely no sense at all — either for this recession or from the standpoint of expanding our economy’s long-run potential to grow.

Raising the marginal tax rate on successful earners, capital, dividends, and all the private funds is a function of Obama’s left-wing social vision, and a repudiation of his economic-recovery statements.

But why is anybody surprised? Obama told us all back in May of last year that he was more concerned with “fairness” than he was with growth. And what is fairness, equality of misery?

Surely, in spite of, and as evidenced by, planned tax increases on the “wealthy”, he does not even care about revenue. As I previously noted, the percentage of federal revenue taken from the richest one percent and the richest five percent actually increased after the Bush tax cuts. So you would think that if one was a firm believer in spending, he would want to tax the rich less, in order to “soak” them more.

But it isn’t about any of that. Obama does not care about growth, and he does not care about revenue. Obama is on a mission to transfer power to the state, and to ensure a Democratic majority for years to come.

When I was growing up in the nineteen eighties, the President was Ronald Reagan, a man who admired Franklin Roosevelt, but sought to transform this country in a vastly different direction than FDR took it. Well now we have a President that admired President Reagan, and his goal is to undo Reagan. Remember what he said about Reagan, that he was “transformative”? That is exactly what Obama aspires to be, transformative. No it isn’t about growth. It obviously is not about revenue. Is it about fairness? I guess so. If making everybody a slave to the state, and equally miserable is fair, then yes, I guess that’s it.

And what is fairness, equality of misery?

    Nail, head.

Obama doesn’t care so much about the Americans who actually made (and make) this country what it is: the entrepreneurs, the big spenders, the leader-types of people who hire and build things; those who keep everything else humming, and the trains running on time. In his dirty little socialist heart, he wants only to see people equalized. Not better, but just the same.

What he does not understand, obviously, is that without exceptional top-rung sorts of people, the rest won’t have anything to aspire to, and won’t try to work harder to attain their potentials. What you have without capitalists and entrepreneurs are bottom-feeders, and non-achievers.

Without a top tier, the bottom doesn’t automatically become better. The overall standards just fall. The bell curve just gets humped.

Maybe that’s what these lefties want: a simple world, without so much hustle and competition, and, well, work.

    Bum lazy, aren’t they?

All true. But surely he knows that he is taking out the very source of revenue for the welfare state he is trying to re-create. I mean, Bush was a true big government lover. He understood that to grow and fund government, you have to have rich people get richer, so that you could raise revenue. Obama doesn’t get that. Well actually he does and just doesn’t care.

He is saying the economy is going to grow at a six percent rate in a couple of years and that growth will reduce the deficit. Six freaking percent. Any growth that we will experience in the next few years will be offset by inflation, the most regressive tax of all. Welcome Back Carter. Remember the seventies. Evidently the Obamaites think that was “the good ole days”.

The only thing that can give Obama a second term is the Republican party. They have to find someone will the ability to win.

I don’t think that is Sarah Palin or Bobby Jindal. I don’t know who it is. We need a Ronald Reagan. Someone who can reach across to the other side and recruit some of their base. I don’t know if Mitt Romney can do that.

We may weather four years of a Marxist President. But this has to be one and done.

Obama could have done some great things. So far he has made Jimmah Carter look like Ronald Reagan. Even social democrat Bill Clinton understood you cannot do this much this quickly to devalue the dollar. Next quarters inflation number will not be pretty. Nor will GNP output. Will the market go to 5000? Obama doesn’t seem to care.

In many ways he does seem to be the Manchurian Candidate from Harvard.

How long before the rich say “fuck it” and clip coupons? When that happens this turns to deflation.

I think it is up to the Republicans, but those SOB’s are still putting earmarks into these budget plans. They are still being bought off. There are a few out there that are worth a crap. Jeff Flake of Arizona is one. As for a standard bearer, he or she will have to be a governor. We will probably just spend the rest of our lives voting for the lesser of two evils.

Republican leadership is clueless. Time to retire God, Gays, and Guns and find a message that carries beyond the base. They have a larger base. A lot of Republicans stayed home because they would not vote for the liberal McCain. I get that. But the price we are paying is beyond what we can afford.

Republicans need to get it together or this Republic is toast.

All economic systems are capitalist. The difference
is what type of capitalism. Is it a system controlled by a
few (socialism), or is it a free system where the individual
    decides for himself?

The division between the two parties is getting worse by the day. Instead of the war between the North and the South, we now have an escalating war between conservatives and liberals. It makes me sick. My teenage daughter has been watching the Fox news channel and MSNBC with me (I want her to hear both sides of the story) and was astounded over the political divide . She said it “scares” her. We should all be ashamed.
